Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) Verification Package

The Zero Energy Ready Home program is an initiative in the U.S. led by the Department of Energy (DOE). The program promotes the construction of high-performance homes that are designed to be so energy efficient that they are capable of producing as much renewable energy as they consume annually. Zero Energy Ready Homes achieve a high level of energy efficiency, indoor air quality, comfort, and durability. 


RESNET HERS, Indoor airPLUS, WaterSense, and ENERGY STAR certifications are incorporated into the ZERH certification. 


Zero Energy Ready Homes provide a healthful environment, comfort plus, advanced technology, and are ultra-efficient, quality built, and durable.

Our team of certified experts diligently follows the ZERH Program Checklist to certify a home as ZERH compliant. 


ZERH Program Checklist Overview

  • ENERGY STAR for Homes Baseline Verification: Ensures the home is ENERGY STAR verified. 
  • Envelope Inspection: Ensures fenestration meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR requirements. Ensures the ceiling, wall, floor, and slab insulation meets or exceeds 2015 IECC levels. 
  • Duct System Inspection: Ensures the proper location of the duct distribution systems and HVAC air handler. 
  • Water Efficiency Inspection: Ensures hot water delivery systems or water heaters and fixtures are efficient. 
  • Lighting & Appliance Inspection: Ensures all appliances are ENERGY STAR qualified. Ensures 80% of lighting fixtures are LEDs. Ensures all fans are ENERGY STAR qualified. 
  • Indoor Air Quality Inspection: Ensures the home is certified under EPA Indoor airPLUS Version 1. 
  • Renewable Ready Inspection: Ensures that the provisions of the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home PV-Ready Checklist are completed.
